Blood Orange Hibiscus Margarita Recipe
Are you ready for an amazing winter drink full of citrus and floral notes?! I know in the middle of winter a bright and exciting drink like this Blood Orange Hibiscus Margarita always puts me in a better mood!
This vibrant cocktail combines the tequila, the unique flavor of blood orange juice, hibiscus tea, Cointreau, agave nectar, and the tanginess of lime juice. Plus you can't beat that beautiful color!
Blood oranges are truly what makes this drink unique. Blood oranges are in season from mid winter to early spring, so you need to take advantage of citrus season. I usually don't see them at my grocery store until about mid January. Of course if you don't have blood oranges on hand or it isn't the right orange season you can use a different type of regular oranges like a navel or cara cara but just note the flavor and color will be different.
This margarita also has beautiful floral notes from the hibiscus. Hibiscus tea is a beautiful plant in which the hibiscus flowers are picked to make an amazing tea. I love it so much I buy the loose leaf tea in bulk. Of course you don't need to by bulk to make this recipe you can also use hibiscus tea bags. I have also seen at some stores hibiscus tea concentrate sold in the refrigerator section which can be used instead of making your own at home.

Tips, Tricks and Questions
Variations
Try adding a little mezcal for an added smokiness. Or Instead of the hibiscus sugar rim try a salt rim with coarse salt.

Absolutely! Using pre-made hibiscus tea is a convenient alternative. Adjust the quantity to match the intensity of the concentrate. You can also make the concentrate as a cold brew by letting the tea and cool water infuse overnight.
What can I substitute for Cointreau?
Grand Marnier or triple sec are great substitutes for Cointreau. Experiment to discover your favorite.
Is there a non-alcoholic version of this margarita?
