Mandarin Orange Margaritas Recipe
Cocktail enthusiasts always have to take advantage of the seasonal produce and winter citrus is no exception. During the winter our house is packed full of oranges and other citrus including the always easy to peel mandarin oranges. So naturally if I have them laying around they are going to end up in a margarita. This marg is a vibrant, tangy, and refreshing spin on the classic margarita.
The sweet and citrusy flavor of fresh mandarins, paired with the rich warmth of tequila, creates a drink that’s as delightful as it is simple to make. Let’s dive into how to create this masterpiece!

Equipment Needed
- Citrus juicer Affiliate Link - To extract fresh juice from the mandarins and lime.
- Cocktail shaker - For blending the ingredients and chilling the drink, if you don't have a cocktail shaker use a jar with a lid.
- Measuring jigger or small measuring cup - For precise ingredient measurements.
- Glass for serving - A rocks glass or margarita glass works best.
- Ice - To chill the cocktail and fill the serving glass.
Ingredients
- Tequila: Blanco tequila for a clean, crisp flavor or reposado tequila for a richer, more robust taste. Pick a good tequila that you enjoy, I personally like the brand Tres Agave.
- Fresh Mandarins: This will require 1-2 mandarin oranges, depending on their size and juiciness. Plus you might want one more for the garnishes.
- Honey Simple Syrup: A naturally sweet alternative to sugar syrup. If you don’t have honey simple syrup on hand, make it by mixing equal parts honey and hot water until fully combined.
- Lime Juice: Freshly squeezed lime juice is essential for that perfect tart balance, try to skip the bottled lime juice and go with fresh lime juice it makes a big difference on the flavor.
- Cointreau: An orange liqueur that enhances the citrusy notes of the cocktail. Triple sec or Grand Marnier can be used as substitutes.

Instructions
Juice the fruits: Begin by juicing the mandarins and lime. Fresh juice ensures the best flavor, so skip the store-bought options if possible.
Combine the ingredients: In a cocktail shaker, add the mandarin orange juice, honey simple syrup, lime juice, Cointreau, and tequila.
Add ice and shake: Fill the shaker with a handful of ice. Secure the lid tightly and shake vigorously for 10-20 seconds until the mixture is well-chilled.
Strain and serve: Place fresh ice into your serving glass. Strain the cocktail into the glass.
Garnish and enjoy: Add a few wedges of mandarin orange for garnish. Serve immediately and savor the citrusy goodness!
