Let's Make a Winter Jack Frost Margarita
Jack Frost is a personification of frost, ice, snow, sleet, winter, and freezing cold. There are many renditions of this character, the first one that comes to my mind is the creepy old one from the 1970's but there is also many more recent variations of Jack Frost. One of these recent variations is this delicious drink, a snowy blue margarita!
This lovely blue margarita topped with snowy coconut flakes is the perfect drink to sip as you watch Christmas movies and shows but also perfect for fun Christmas and holiday parties. With a tropical twist from the coconut this margarita gets its color from blue curacao liqueur, the bitter orange flavored blue colored liqueur. With these simple ingredients you can make this jack frost winter cocktail!
Equipment Needed
- Cocktail shaker - For blending the ingredients.
- Measuring jigger or shot glass - You can also use a standard tablespoon, all you need to know is two tablespoons equals one ounce.
- Small plates - For preparing the snowy rim.
- Drinking Glass - preferably a festive one.
- Ice - For a perfectly chilled drink.
Ingredients
- Blue Curaçao - Known for its bright blue coloring this is what will give the drink its signature color.
- Lime Juice - Use fresh lime juice, and grab an extra lime for your lime garnish.
- Blanco Tequila - I like to use Tres Agave if you are looking for a brand to try.
- Coconut Milk (Canned) - For the smoothest consistency, shake the can of coconut milk before opening. You can use either light or full fat coconut milk, I prefer the light coconut milk but use whichever one you prefer.
- Shredded Coconut - You can use sweetened or unsweetened, I prefer the unsweetened since they will be stuck on with corn syrup.
- Light Corn Syrup - Because it is clear and thick enough that the coconut will stick to the rim. I tried honey and it made the coconut look yellow and yellow snow is not what we are going after. I also tried agave nectar which worked okay, the color wasn't as noticeable but it isn't that thick so it was running all over the side of the glass along with the coconut. So if you are opposed to light corn syrup give agave nectar a try, it won't be perfect but it will do the job.
Instructions
Begin by preparing the signature snowy coconut rim. Pour a small circle of corn syrup onto a small plate. Dip the rim of your glass into the syrup, allowing any excess to drip off. Next, spread shredded coconut onto another plate and dip the syrup-coated rim into it. Press gently to ensure the coconut adheres evenly. Set the glass aside while you prepare the drink.
In a cocktail shaker, combine the blue curaçao, lime juice, tequila, and coconut milk. Add a generous handful of ice to the shaker, then cover and shake vigorously for 10–20 seconds.
Fill the prepared glass with ice. Strain the margarita into the glass, letting the vibrant blue liquid contrast beautifully against the snowy rim. Garnish with a slice of lime for a final festive touch, and your Jack Frost Margarita is ready to enjoy!
