Festive Winter Wonderland Margarita
When winter rolls around, it’s time to add a little magic to your cocktail game! The Winter Wonderland Margarita is just what you need to bring a frosty, festive vibe to your gatherings.
This cocktail combines creamy coconut with a touch of cinnamon along with the classic flavors of lime, orange, and tequila. This cocktail is the perfect mixture of winter coziness and tropical vibes which seems like it shouldn't work but it definitely does. This is one of those drinks I think you will find yourself making all winter, not just the holiday season.
The coconut makes this drink bright white, just like a fresh snow. When garnished with limes and cranberries it doesn't get much more festive! Whether you’re hosting a holiday party, sipping by the fire, or simply treating yourself, this margarita is the ultimate seasonal indulgence.
Equipment Needed
- Cocktail shaker: Essential for blending the ingredients and chilling the drink. If you don't have a cocktail shaker a mason jar with a tight-fitting lid works perfectly in place of a cocktail shaker.
- Jigger or measuring tools: If you don't have a bar jigger just keep in mind that two tablespoons equals one ounce.
- Small plate: For rimming the glass with salt.
- Drinking glass: Choose your favorite festive glassware.
- Citrus juicer Affiliate Link: Helps you extract every last drop of lime juice.
Ingredients
- Fresh Lime Juice - The difference between an okay cocktail and great cocktail is the fresh citrus juice, try to avoid the bottled stuff for the best flavor. Grab fresh limes at the store for the best result.
- Cointreau - Triple sec or any orange liqueur whichever you have on hand or prefer. I like cointreau since it has a more complex flavor than triple sec but either will work.
- Cinnamon Simple Syrup - You can certainly buy cinnamon simple syrup from the store but you can also make it super easy at home just check out my Cinnamon Simple Syrup Recipe.
- Light (Lite) Coconut Milk - From the can! After opening the can, make sure you give it a good stir to make sure that none of the coconut fat is just sitting on the bottom. You can also use full fat coconut milk, this is personal preference.
- Tequila - Blanco tequila also known as silver tequila, I really like the organic tequila from Tres Agave. For this recipe I would tend to stay away from the gold tequila as it might make the margarita not as bright white.
- Kosher Salt - If you don't like a salted margarita no worries just skip this step.
- Garnishes - Fresh cranberries, lime slices, rosemary sprigs.
Instructions
For a salted rim: Pour kosher salt onto a small plate. Take a juiced lime half or lime wedge and rub it around the rim of your glass. Dip the rim into the plate of salt, coating it evenly. Set the glass aside.
In a cocktail shaker, combine the lime juice, Cointreau, cinnamon simple syrup, tequila, coconut milk, and a large handful of ice to the shaker.
Cover tightly and shake vigorously for 10–20 seconds until the mixture is well chilled.
Fill your prepared glass with fresh ice. Strain the margarita mixture into the glass.
Add garnishes like fresh cranberries, lime slice, or a sprig of rosemary for a festive touch.
