How to Make Cinnamon Simple Syrup
Cinnamon simple syrup is my favorite of all of the simple syrups in the fall, I think it magically has this way of taking any drink and helping give it a "Fall Twist". While of course it is good all year round, I find that it goes particularly well with anything apple or pumpkin flavored.
You will find most of my beverages that contain and apple juice or cider also will tend to use cinnamon simple syrup, they just go so well together!
Did I mention yet that this is also great for adding to coffee or tea? Because it is!
So many uses for cinnamon simple syrup so let's make some!
Equipment Needed
- Saucepan: A medium-sized saucepan for heating and simmering the ingredients.
- Wooden Spoon/Whisk: To stir and ensure the sugar dissolves evenly.
- Measuring Cups and Spoons: For precise measurements.
- Glass Jar or Bottle: For storing your cinnamon simple syrup once it's ready to use.
Ingredients
- Granulated Sugar: It provides the sweetness and syrupy texture.
- Water: The essential liquid to help dissolve the sugar and create the syrup.
- Cinnamon Sticks: These are the stars of the show, infusing the syrup with warm, aromatic cinnamon flavor.
How to Make Cinnamon Simple Syrup
Bring your saucepan over medium heat. Combine 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 cup of water. Bring mixture to a gentle simmer. Stir gently as the water heats up until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Add three cinnamon sticks to the mixture, gently breaking them in half if your saucepan isn't large enough for full sticks. Allow it to gently simmer for 5 minutes (turn down the heat in needed). Keep a watchful eye to prevent boiling.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool to room temperature. Transfer it into a glass jar or bottle, you can remove the cinnamon stick if you are happy with the flavor or leave them in to continue infusing while it is stored.
Tips, Tricks and Questions
If you don't have cinnamon sticks use 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon for 1 cup of water and sugar, you will need to strain through a cheesecloth Affiliate Link once cooled to filter out the ground cinnamon.
What is the shelf life of cinnamon syrup?
If stored in a glass jar in the fridge your cinnamon simple syrup should last 3 to 4 weeks. Just keep a lookout for any discoloration or smells to whether you need to make a new batch or not.
Variations
For an extra twist, consider adding a vanilla bean or a strip of orange peel to your syrup for even more flavor.
