Non Alcoholic Paloma
You've got to love a classic paloma they are such a refreshing drink. But I have to admit this Paloma Mocktail might be better than the traditional palomas.
This non-alcoholic version of a Paloma has it all! A truly amazing balanced flavor, healthy wholesome ingredients, and no alcohol so you can enjoy and feel amazing!
Honestly this beverage just isn't free of alcohol it uses fresh grapefruit juice instead of soda and a minimal amount of agave nectar, so it is a healthy mocktail. Plus coconut water, so you actually end up feeling hydrated after you drink this!
Just like my Margarita Mocktail, a good paloma mocktail just about pairs with any occasion it would be great for cinco de mayo, a hot summer day, relaxing night and it is even good to make for the whole family. It really is great any time of year.
Equipment Needed
- Glass - I like to use a collins glass or high ball glass because they tend to be a little bigger than other cocktail glasses, this is a pretty large drink so you are going to want the extra space.
- Spoon

Ingredients
Let's explore the nutritious components that make up our Paloma Mocktail:
- Grapefruit Juice - I do use bottled grapefruit juice for this drink but if you are so lucky to have extra grapefruit laying around feel free to use fresh squeezed grapefruit.
- Coconut Water - Use plain and unsweetened coconut water, using the coconut water helps mellow out the harshness of the grapefruit all while adding a health component to the drink.
- Lime Juice - Skip the bottled stuff and use fresh lime juice for the best results.
- Apple Cider Vinegar - Adding vinegar sounds crazy but trust me don't skip it, it adds the zip that alcohol usually provides, and don't worry the vinegar flavor doesn't overpower the drink.
- Agave Nectar - Agave is what is used to make tequila so using agave nectar in this paloma which is classically a tequilla based drink makes sense.
- Grapefruit-Flavored Seltzer Water - Using a grapefruit flavor really helps double down on the grapefruit flavor of the paloma.
Instructions
Begin by adding grapefruit juice, coconut water, fresh lime juice, apple cider vinegar, and agave nectar to a glass.
Use a spoon to ensure thorough mixing until the agave nectar is fully mixed in with the other ingredients.
Add a generous handful of ice to the glass.
Top off the drink with a splash of grapefruit-flavored seltzer water.
Give one last little stir to mix all the flavors together.
Optionally garnish the mocktail with a slice of grapefruit.
Tips, Tricks and Questions
Creative Variations
- Explore various seltzer flavors like lime or plain to tailor the mocktail to your taste.
- You can also play around with spice, add a chili powder and salt to a rim of a glass. Or add a slice of fresh jalapeño.
- Add a pinch of salt to tie the flavors together and forgo a salt rim.
- Alternately instead of a seltzer you can use club soda, ginger beer, ginger ale, or a grapefruit-flavored soda. Just keep in mind some of these options will sweeten the drink quite a bit!
- Add herbs... try adding some fresh rosemary for a fun take on the paloma.
Can I make this mocktail ahead of time for a party?
Absolutely! Prepare the base mixture in advance and add the seltzer just before serving to preserve its effervescence.
What can I substitute for agave nectar?
Honey, Maple Syrup, or Simple Syrup are excellent alternatives, catering to personal taste preferences.
Is there a specific brand of grapefruit-flavored seltzer you recommend?
There are so many brands of seltzer! A few popular options include Polar or Lacroix brands.
Can I make a larger batch for a group?
Yes! Adjust the quantities while maintaining ingredient ratios for a perfect Paloma mocktail experience. Use a large pitcher to mix it all together and then pour into individual glasses.
Can I put a rim on my non-alcoholic paloma?
Of course. To make a salt rim, use the juiced lime half and rub the edge of the glass all the way around. Add sea salt or kosher salt to a small plate and gently roll the edge of the glass in the salt.
NOTE: I know this is a mocktail drink but add 1.5 ounces of tequila and you have the most perfect low ABV Palmoa cocktail.
